On the RISE: Correlative Confocal Raman and Scanning Electron Microscopy

RISE Microscopy combines Raman Imaging and Scanning Electron Microscopy. Raman imaging enables the identification of molecules, their allotropes and polymorphs, the determination of their orientation, purity and crystallinity, and the detection of strain states. SEM allows for the imaging of surface structures on the nanometre scale. A RISE system incorporates the advantages of both in the same vacuum chamber to facilitate the most in-depth characterisation of a sample. This application note describes its principles and associated hardware before presenting example measurements from geology, polymer science, biology, carbon nanomaterial development and transition metal dichalcogenide (TMD) research.
